    Prevent Re-Injuring Your Ankles

    No matter what kind of lifestyle you may have, almost everyone has dealt with some type of ankle injury. Typically, most ankle injuries tend to occur in the form of a sprain or strain, both of which are relatively mild in severity but they would still require around a couple of months to heal all the way. 

    However, even if these injuries heal, they will still haunt you. This is because an ankle that is weakened by sprains is more likely to have repeated sprains in the future. So if you have hurt your ankle in the past, this guide will be a great way to help you in building up your ankle strength and preventing you from dealing with future injuries. 

    Common Types of Ankle Injuries 

    Ankle injuries are not just limited to athletes because anyone can get an ankle injury – all it takes is an uneven surface. That being said, according to the Orthomanhattan, it was found that half of all ankle sprains tend to occur during athletic activities. Men that are between the ages above 14 and 24 have a higher rate of experiencing ankle sprains than women around the same age range. Although, once women exceed the age of 30, the chances of getting a sprain becomes higher. 

    Preventing Future Injuries 

    It is unfortunate but in reality the truth is that when you injure your ankle, you become more prone to injuring yourself even more in the future. However, you can minimize the risk of reinjuring it in the future by undergoing proper physical therapy. And to help you figure out how to do that, here are a few things you can work on to prevent these issues from happening. 

    • Make sure to thoroughly stretch before exercise. Use specific stretches that can target your ankles. 
    • It also helps to wear protective gear such as compression sleeves or ankle brace that can ensure the stabilization of joints. These are especially useful when you are planning to run, hike, or play a sport. 
    • Make sure that if you have just recovered from an injury, you need to take it easy. It is always better to take your time to heal so that you will be able to walk for longer.
