What Happens If a Veneer Chips or Falls Off?

If you have dental veneers and they fall off, it can be a stressful experience. This is especially true if you are in the middle of your day or in a public space. Veneers have certainly become very popular in fixing smiles. Many people in Fresno choose them for their durability and natural look.

While veneers are very strong, they can still get damaged. The foods you eat, along with other factors, can affect how long your veneers will last. Fresno’s hot and dry summers and temperature changes can also impact your oral health and dental work.

If your veneers get damaged, do not panic. This is a common problem people have and dentists can easily deal with it. Whether you are in Concord Mills, or anywhere in Cabarrus County, you can find a local cosmetic dentist in Concord, NC, to help. They will check your teeth and talk to you about the best way to fix the problem.

    Immediate steps to take

If your veneer gets damaged or detaches from your teeth, it is important to stay calm. If the veneer has fallen off but is still in one piece, try to find it. Make sure you handle it very carefully and keep it safe. If it is only chipped, keep the pieces in a clean container.

This might help your dentist fix or replace the veneer. You should also avoid eating on the tooth with the broken veneer until you see your dentist.

If you use the tooth without the veneer, it can result in more harm, like damaging the tooth underneath. Gently rinse your mouth with warm water to clean the area. This helps remove any leftover food or bacteria and lowers the risk of infection.

It is very important to contact your dentist immediately. Tell them about your condition and ask for advice. The dentist will check your condition and put the veneer back in place or replace it.

Solutions for a chipped or lost veneer

    For a chipped veneer

If the damage is minor, the dentist may be able to repair the chipped area using a procedure called composite bonding. In this procedure, a tooth-colored material is applied to the damaged spot to fill the chip and make the surface smooth. The dentist then shapes and hardens the material to match the natural appearance of your tooth.

If the chip is large or the veneer is badly damaged, your dentist may replace the veneer. In this case, the damaged veneer would be removed, and a new one would be custom-made to fit your tooth. This can be a complex process; however, it will restore your tooth’s appearance and strength.

    For a lost veneer:

If the veneer has fallen off but is still in one piece and in good condition, your dentist may be able to rebond it to your tooth. They will clean both the tooth and the veneer, apply a special glue, and place the veneer back on your tooth. This option works well if the veneer has not been severely damaged.

If the veneer is lost or damaged and can not be repaired, your dentist will need to create a new one. They will take impressions of your tooth and send them to a lab to create a custom veneer. Once it is ready, the dentist will place the new veneer on your teeth. This process might take a little longer, but it ensures the new veneer fits perfectly and blends naturally.

Veneer chipped or fell off? Act fast!

A chipped or missing veneer can disrupt your day, but do not worry. You can protect your smile by contacting your dentist immediately for repair or replacement. Schedule your emergency consultation to ensure the best outcome.
