Things To Consider Before Undergoing Surgery For Eyelids

Eyelid surgery is a procedure that is not too common. However, it may become imperative for you when you notice the tell-tale signs of age developing on one or both eyelids. The skin is likely to wrinkle and sag causing you to look tired and angry. A cosmetic surgeon will be able to perform the blepharoplasty alternatively known as surgery for eyelids to address the concerns. The result will reveal a rejuvenated look with the youthful appearance being restored to a great degree.

True, you cannot make the decision singlehandedly as the concerned surgeon has to okay it first. While the indications of aging are difficult to look at, there are other things to consider as well. Some of the things that have to be checked and reviewed properly include the following:-

What to note before considering surgery for eyelids

  • Right Candidate– It is common enough to ask the surgeon whether you are the right candidate. Well, you do not have to match the criteria perfectly, either. Instead, you would be asked to go through the procedure when you express discontent with the appearance of your eyelids. You should be between the ages of 40 to 70 ideally. But there are many younger patients recommended for blepharoplasty as well especially when they experience difficulty with their vision on account of sagging eyebrows. You also need to enjoy good general health with no instance of undergoing recent major surgeries. It is further important to understand that you are the right candidate when you hope to remove the excess skin from the eyelid(s) correct the droopiness or remove the eye bags.
  • Downtime– You would be told about the potential downtime and expected recovery period well in advance. Moreover, the surgeon will explain the procedure at length and discuss the expectations. It is vital to go in for the surgery with a realistic expectation. It is an excellent idea to combine any other cosmetic facial procedures so that you do not have to go through invasive procedures multiple times.
  • Recovery-  The time to heal completely after the surgery cannot be predicted with accuracy. It differs from patient to patient. However, you may recover from an upper eyelid procedure within 7 days on average. The time estimated for the lower eyelid surgery is 10 to 4 days but maybe longer depending on the approach of the surgeon. While there are no dressings to remove afterward, the sutures are removed after 5 days usually. However, you have to take extreme care in the following days to avoid injury that may affect proper recovery. Perfect recovery can be achieved only after months of undergoing eyelid surgery.

Another thing to keep in mind about considering surgery for eyelids is the presence of crow’s feet at the corner of your eyes. Sadly, this procedure will not get rid of them although you will have no sagging sin or drooping eyelids anymore. No worries! You may opt for both types of procedures simultaneously to improve the overall appearance.
