Pushing aside a dental issue can be detrimental to your overall health. A dental emergency calls for same-day attention to ensure that your teeth and gum do not worsen to warrant more than a single appointment for treatment. Dental emergencies can occur anywhere and at any time. Sometimes, you may feel that your condition does not warrant urgent attention because not all dental problems are emergencies. Have you experienced teeth problems and are unsure if you need prompt care? Do not hesitate to seek professional help from dental experts like Austin Advanced Dentistry. Serious cases like a dislodged tooth may require swift action, and negligence may cost you a lifetime. Read on to discover other same-day dental emergencies you cannot afford to ignore.

    1. Knocked Out or Broken Teeth

Your teeth may be knocked out while playing or while doing activities that risk your teeth falling off. If this happens, you will dread the pain. One thing you must not forget is that there is a good chance that your emergency dentist will be able to save your smile. You must, however, adhere to a few rules. Pick your fallen tooth, rinse it with water if it caught some dirt, and place it back in its socket. If that is impossible, soak the tooth in whole milk as you rush to see your dentist.

    1. Dental Abscess

Dental abscesses can be damaging to the teeth and the surrounding tissues. They occur due to infections around the root of a tooth. When left untreated, the infection may spread to other body parts, and the results can be detrimental. To check for abscess in your mouth, check for any swelling on the gum that is painful and might be seeping with pus. Dental abscess warrants a same-day emergency, and your dentist may recommend root canal therapy, which will keep your teeth in place and cure the abscess. However, if the damage is irreparable, you may be called in for a tooth extraction.

    1. Bleeding Gums

It is uncommon for healthy gums to bleed excessively. So, if your gums are bleeding and won’t stop, chances are, you might be suffering from periodontal disease. To keep the bleeding under control, try rinsing your mouth with mild salt water and applying some pressure with a moist gauze on the bleeding area. If the bleeding does stop, visit your emergency dentist immediately.

    1. Severe Toothache

If you have nagging tooth pain that interferes with your ability to munch food or sleep, this can indicate several underlying conditions. Tooth decay and bacterial buildup can cause persistent pain. Hence, it is only fair to contact your emergency dentist immediately to have them identify the cause of the pain. You can use cold compresses to dull the pain before you visit your dentist.

If you are unsure if you are experiencing a dental emergency, it is important to contact your emergency dentist to have you checked. Dental emergencies require quick action to relieve you from the pain and prevent more damage. Maintaining and protecting your oral health is important, so make that call anyway.
