Rotator cuff injuries are a common type of shoulder injury that can cause pain and limited mobility. The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that attach the shoulder blade to the upper arm bone and help to stabilize and move the shoulder joint. These muscles and tendons can become injured or damaged due to overuse, trauma, or degeneration, leading to rotator cuff injuries.

Symptoms of rotator cuff injuries can include pain, weakness, and limited mobility in the shoulder. In some cases, the pain can radiate down the arm or cause difficulty sleeping on the affected side. Rotator cuff injuries can range from mild to severe, with severe cases requiring surgical intervention.

There are several factors that can increase the risk of developing rotator cuff injuries. These include age, as the risk of injury increases with age; repetitive overhead activities, such as throwing or painting; and degenerative changes in the rotator cuff due to aging or other factors.

Treatment for rotator cuff injuries typically involves a combination of rest, physical therapy, and in some cases, surgery. Resting the affected shoulder and avoiding activities that cause pain or discomfort can help to reduce inflammation and promote healing. Physical therapy can help to improve shoulder mobility, strengthen the rotator cuff muscles, and reduce pain. In severe cases, surgery mzy be necessary to repair or replace damaged tissue in the rotator cuff.

Preventing rotator cuff injuries involves maintaining good shoulder health through regular exercise and proper technique during physical activities. Strengthening exercises that target the rotator cuff muscles can help to reduce the risk of injury, as can using proper form during overhead activities and avoiding overuse.
