Your mouth shows signs that something is wrong with your body. And if you do not take care of your oral health, you increase your risk of oral health and general health complications. Your family dentist in Sterling Heights should examine your mouth and clean your teeth at least once a year to ensure they are healthy. During your visit, they can tell you the common signs of poor oral health. These include the following:

    Teeth Sensitivity

If you experience sharp mouth pain every time you consume something cold or hot, this could indicate you have dentin sensitivity. Because this condition is common, you may just overlook it. However, it could mean you have an underlying oral infection. Also, when you experience sudden sensitivity, this could be an early sign of gingivitis, which could worsen into advanced periodontitis. If you can no longer get relief from numbing gels or toothpaste, you should visit your dentist who can create a treatment plan that fits your condition.

    Mouth Ulcers

Mouth sores can develop when you consume excessive amounts of spicy food or unintentionally bite the inside part of your cheek. But if you suddenly suffer from mouth ulcers, you should consult your family dentist. Mouth sores can indicate the development of oral cancer. Mouth sores that do not heal quickly can mean you have diabetes. Make sure you see your dentist, so you can get a proper diagnosis.

    Teeth Staining

Teeth discoloration can occur when you have been eating excessive amounts of certain foods for a long time. Professional teeth whitening can correct this dental flaw and provide you with a beautiful smile. However, if only a tooth is changing its shade, you should see a dentist for an assessment as soon as possible. A tooth could turn darker because of a dead nerve or serious decay, which must be treated promptly to save the tooth and preserve your bright smile.

    Swollen Gums

Any changes to your gum tissue’s condition can mean you have a serious oral health issue. Your gums should be pink and not bleed. However, when they look inflamed and red, something must be wrong. Bleeding gums indicate periodontal disease and can result in tooth loss when not treated right away. When you see blood spots when you brush your teeth, you should schedule an appointment with your dentist. You might have gingivitis, which can be reversed when you get proper treatment on time.
