Invisalign clear aligners are preferred by many patients for teeth alignment including those who are in the Ankeny Iowa dentist. These aligners make it possible to have a beautiful smile without people noticing that one is having a dental treatment. However, to use them, proper oral hygiene needs to be put in place and observed, constantly.

Unlike regular braces, the clear ones are detachable and this makes it easy to clean the teeth and the gum in particular. However, such convenience has a drawback which is to say that one must adhere religiously to good oral hygiene.

Leaving out this practice may result in the formation of dental plaque, tooth cavities, and gum diseases. As a result, it is critical to learn how to maintain your teeth and aligners to keep your oral hygiene satisfactory throughout the treatment process.

How Do I Take Care of My Clear Aligners?

It is important to clean your clear aligners properly so that they do not harbor bacteria that may harm your teeth in one way or the other. They should be rinsed in lukewarm water and ideally should be brushed with a soft toothbrush each time they are removed.

Do not use toothpaste to clean them, since the toothpaste is abrasive and can scratch the surface of the aligners thus at the same time, helping bacteria thrive. Also, it is possible to use the whitening formula with clear aligners to keep them fresh and clear for regular use at night.

Cleaning will also reduce discoloration of the aligners, and eliminate bad breath-causing bacteria thus creating a healthy dental ecosystem.

How often should one brush and floss when using clear aligners?

Clear aligners require patients to brush and floss even more than when wearing normal braces. It should be done after each meal or snack, before placing the aligners back into the mouth as a perfect scenario.

The advantage of this is that it enables you to clean up any of the food particles and plaque that may find their way between the teeth and the aligners to cause some decay and other related complications. It is crucial to floss at least once a day to ensure that you clean in between the teeth where the brush cannot get to.

Good oral hygiene will help to avoid any possibilities of the formation of cavities and other gum diseases in your mouth while your teeth structures go through the realignment process.

How to care for your aligners and teeth during the treatment?

You must be very careful with your aligners and teeth to ensure you achieve the best results. Do not eat or drink while wearing your aligners as this will dirty them, it is recommended that you wear them only while sleeping, hence, always place them in their case when not being worn.

It is advised not to take them while taking warm or hot water or else, the aligners will have an awkward shape and will not fit properly. Also make sure that you have washed your teeth and the aligners before putting them back again because if food particles stick between the teeth and the aligners, bacteria are likely to grow causing bad breath.

Visits to the dentist or orthodontist are also good for checking up on the conditions of your teeth and gums while undergoing the alignment process.

    Conclusion

Caring for the teeth and gums during the use of clear aligners is not easy, but it is very important. This makes it possible for you to achieve excellent and healthy smiles by brushing and flossing your teeth correctly, being aware of the type of foods you take, and keeping your aligners clean besides affording the required protection both for your teeth and aligners.

The care that you will take in observing your dental hygiene during this era shall help you maintain the condition of your teeth during the treatment period and after.
